This is spot on. What many former yugoslavs fail to realize is that however essential the differences between Serbs, Croats and Bosniaks may seem to them, to us you all look and sound the same. So any "public outbursts of Balkan primitivism" simply contribute to a general distrust of Balkan slavs.

That said, expecting immigrants to forget about the guys who tortured them and raped their sister is probably unrealistic. The potential problem needed to be acknowledged (anathema to the dominant ethos) and managed, both before and after immigration.

I need to reflect more on these broader questions. The Australian anglo elite has adopted PC American "liberalism" as its values and attempted to impose them on the rest of society. I don't know where Australia is heading. I fear our luck is running out. Chinese client state, perhaps.

We also have to remember that it took the Anglo/Irish Australians a long time to leave their old world problems behind. Even up to the 1950s, 'Aussies' referred to Britain as the 'motherland', and the Catholic/Protestant divide was huge. It took time for these issues to be left behind.

Also, without the contribution of non-Anglo Europeans, Australia would be a very boring place indeed, not to mention that the parliaments around the country would have far less people in them, aswell the sporting teams, restaurents etc etc....

There are A LOT of Maltese people in Australia, if they all had to come back there wouldn't be enough space and we'd have to build skyscrapers.

What about the 2nd or 3rd generations? Most of them would have a hard time adjusting especially when some of them probably don't even speak the language anymore.

The question would be better directed at the Aboriginal community wouldn't it?

I wish southern Europeans would stop using that term. Especially since Turks and middle easterners have now taken ownership of that word too.

I'm actually an immigrant to Australia and I have never called myself a "wog". None of my Anglo friends think of me like that either and I find it offensive. It helps that I'm not dark I guess but still, the term needs to be dropped.

Some people find the term endearing. It's kind of like when black people call each other 'niggers', but it's cruel when a white person says it. Same with wog.
