Japanese and to a lesser extent Korean marketing of pop culture appeals to the non-threatening nature of Japanese idols. Horny rich women in Tokyo and Seoul pay top dollar for guys who look like this at host clubs.

It's my opinion that girls in Korea and Japan are gradually accustomed to pseudo-lesbianism from the strict separation of the sexes starting in middle school during puberty. Many girls have told me that their first sexual attraction was to someone of the same sex during middle school. Put people together with strictly their own gender during puberty and you are going to have a slightly higher rate of homosexuality and attraction to guys with feminine characteristics. Also, the extreme masculinity of traditional Japanese and Korean males has become something of a turn-off to girls who are faced with economically dead fish who are modern Japanese males. For this reason you also hear of a lot of Japanese girls attracted to much older men, which can also be explained by isolation of girls from any males aside from their fathers and brothers. The Korean girls even call their boyfriends "oppa", i.e. "big brother".. an Classic Elecktra complex if I ever saw it... You can certainly see why many girls might fight masculinity in itself as something repulsive and subconsciously incestuous.

In addition, the lack of interest in mating by Japanese males plays a large part in this. This is do to economic factors like price of education for kids and the lack of steady jobs, destruction of masculinity in basically slave-labor economy. Furthermore, There are no arranged marriages these days to offset the lack of interest in sex or building a family.
