I've never seen a ghost or anything paranormal, so I can't say I believe.
I think that people can be mentally conditioned to look for or expect paranormal things. Like some people would feel frightened in a grungy dark old house, just because they've seen ghost movies set in similar environments.
And everyone has a natural instinct to fear the dark, because we can't see predators in darkness. Is it a coincidence that many people report seeing, feeling, or "sensing" ghosts in the darkness?
The concept of ghosts and demons is like telling the human senses that there are totally invisible predators to look out for, which creates even greater paranoia.
I'm not saying there is nothing which can't be explained, though. I do think there could be something to it which isn't fully understood, like a layer of time intercepting with the present time? If any of the people who report seeing ghosts that resemble historical figures are not deluded or lying, then maybe they're briefly seeing the past.
