    not at all

if it was my moms surname, it would be common (very dutch, similar to van sloten, van der vliet). so the story goes on my dads side, our name used to be the german "dietzl" for generations. apparently, our ancestor worked for... william the orange? can't remember. anyways it was a good life but his daughter disgraced williams son or something so rather than face penalty they fled, changing their name to an amalgamation of a german and hungarian word.

its probably all untrue though i dont know how reliable it is

In Australia, there are only two families with my surname. In the former Yugoslavia it's still very uncommon.

I don't think it's very common in US but common in Scotland and Australia.
