My surname "Dimou" is very prevalent in Greece, but mostly centered into the region of Arta.(around that specific area.)
Arta is somewhat western central Greece, from what i remember.
And yes, its uncommon, but not that rare. Most people here ask me if i have any relations with a female singer who just so happens to have that surname.
But yeah, kinda rare & unique. Not that common, from what i noticed. (at least personally, haven't met anyone with that surname.)

For an unprepared person, my last name sounds like Polish (-skiy, plus a couple of hissing consonants). But in fact, this surname is found only in Belarus, Ukraine (less often) and in the west and south-west of Russia, only among ethnic Slavs.
Rare enough, but not so much, I can immediately recall two relatively famous people with this last name.
