Ten years later: I stood not far from there (first frame) - overlooking Florence. I think Stendhal wasn't lying when he wrote down what he felt visiting Florence. I too felt something - not unlike I just finished a long trip and here I was:
Wake up and smell the coffee.

Giiovanni Palestrina (1525-1594) a renowned Italian Renaissance Composer of sacred masterpieces, composed this motet, posthumously published in Rome (in 1608). The lyrics in Sicut Cervus are based upon some fragments from Psalm 42.
As sung in Latin: “Sicut cervus desiderat ad fontes aquarum, ita desiderat anima mea ad te Deus.”
Translated into English: “As the deer long for the springs of water, so my soul longs for you, oh God.”
I had the pleasure and joy to sing the Tenor Part for it, some very many years ago. Cicut Cervus was my first opportunity to sing from Palestrina's Music (truly a joy).
