I end up building stuff like this when i play the sims (only occasionally now). Usually there will be a big family house for some generations and then i get bored and build a mini house for all but one of a particular generation.
I like it because it's compact, it has everything and it's probably relatively easy to care for with the wooden surfaces. Although the wood would need to be looked after in the long term, somewhere wet especially like Britain. Wood is always more homely, but unfortunately not very common in housing here.
