I had $350 Persol sunglasses at one time. I am more frugal these days but still picky.

Gucci, Tom Ford, Hugo Boss. That's what I wear usually. This winter I decided to be warm instead of stylish, and got a North Face jacket, and that's what I wear daily. I also have a couple Hugo Boss and Gas jackets, but they don't get much use anymore.

What I choose to wear is based much more in how long it will last me rather than its style. Some brands I've had better success with and so I look for their name when shopping. Still, not much beats the value of thrift stores.

Where I live we have second hand stores that sell really various stuff, it is not very hard to find quality material clothes. I'm not sure how it is in other countries. I'm a sensible buyer and new clothes even if they are bandly sewn in some Poland, Turkey or China are really expensive compared to the minimal wage. Their actual worth is very low but resellers put on huge mark-ups. But I agree that if you want to buy some special clothes or shoes you should better buy them new. Cheap good quality second-hand clothes are usually of very simple design. It's a matter of luck finding some impressive second-hand item.
If I had a lot of money, I would defnitely buy some designer clothes. But now when I don't have them it feels uselless even being overly interested in fashion (I don't feel any need to know what style was in last season and now is completely out let's say). The thing is, some of them are made of very high quality materials that wear a lot of slower, you by them expensive, but if you do not overly wear them, their worth may still be considerably high. And sometimes design itself looks expensive. But I'm not sure if I ever gonna be that rich to be able calmly buy clothes that cost thousands...Hardly. They don't really figure in my dream life either. It's just that I understand actual advantages of some deisgner clothes. I'm not interesting in flashing around.

Whatever is comfortable. My favorite are Polo Ralph Lauren, Banana Republic, Nike, Adiddas, Calvin Klein, Quiksilver, GAP, Air Jordan.

I don't care for brands on the most part. We happily shop the local fred meyer or target....or goodwill Admittedly, because I have pretty wide feet, the shoes which fit me best are usually those manufactured somewhere in Europe....typically Germany, Italy, or the UK. Shoes can get more expensive because of it....but even then, I don't buy shoes for brand names....I buy for quality and appearance.
Most of the overpriced ho-bate manolo blahnik type shoes I can't stand, anyway.
