I agree with you, too much tanning is bad. But bear in mind, burning is a lot worse for your skin than tanning. So tanning every now and then (like once a year/every two years) isn't too bad, because it means your skin is slightly more protected against melanoma if you manage to tan. Still, it shouldn't be done often. But if you burn, it's not a good idea at all really.

And a person who is not sand blonde and with a deep tan is less East Norwegian... I'll have to dye my hair and spend some time sun bathing to become more East Norwegian, as in my current state I might be mistaken for a west Norwegian

You should read the book Black Like Me by John Howard Griffin, it was about this white guy who wanted to know how it feels to be Black. So he takes these pills that make his skin dark, and his skin became dark indeed. People did not look at his European/Caucasian features at all but rather at his skin color and judged him by it.
