Greece closer to Belgium or Finland than Italy?
    Makes sense
Japan and South Korea so much apart?

you misunderstand this is about the values of the country not culture

Variation in people‘s prevailing value orientations is enormous, yet in many aspects
it can be boiled down to just two dimensions of cross-cultural variation:

Weak vs. strong SECULAR-RATIONAL Values: with secular-rational values getting
weaker one approaches the mythical ideal of a sacred community, with these
values getting stronger one approaches the rational ideal of a secular community.
This polarity is about ideals of the COMMUNITY.

    (2) Weak vs. strong SELF-EXPRESSION Values: with self-expression values getting
weaker one approaches the conformist ideal of a restrained individual, with these
values getting stronger one approaches the ideal of an expressive individual.
This polarity is about ideals of the INDIVIDUAL.

Would be interesting to know, exactly how it was scored.

It's correct in saying, Ireland holds more traditional values than England.

Survival & self-expression scores, I don't know what that means exactly.

edit: Migla's post, says how in a small bit.

These scores would change, depending on Urban & rural areas.

This is not a matter of dispute, (social) values are a subset of culture going by the dictionary definitions of the words.

it means either less freedom for more social security or more freedom and individualism and less security

the other is more conservatism or being more progressive
