Please sign internet petition to stop Finland's disastrous new immigration law

Finland's Minister of Immigration, Astrid Thors, is proposing a new immigration law that would, in practice, fling Finland's doors (and therefore, the doors of all EU countries) open to 3rd world immigrants.

This in a situation where a new recession is just around the corner, news of mass layoffs are almost a daily occurrence, and where practically all other European countries are tightening their immigration policies.

It is worth mentioning that the Finnish mass media has not found it necessary to inform people at all that such a law is in the works. The only exception is the Tampere daily Aamulehti.

Some "highlights" of the new law include:

- It would basically equate the term "refugee" with "3rd world immigrant".

- A refugee can bring his family to Finland, even if the decision to deport him already has been made. The concept of "family" would also be extended to include entire clans and tribes. Once the family got here, water would be more likely to flow uphill than us ever getting rid of any of them (including the original deportee) again.

- A "refugee" can be granted a permanent residence permit for "humanitarian reasons", again, even if the authorities already have decided to deport him.

- Deportation can also be prevented by "technical" reasons, such as the lack of flight connections or other means of transportation to the destination country, lack of travel documents, or local authorities who do not wish to deal with the deportee. It is widely known that would-be immigrants routinely destroy their passports to prevent identification.

- The so-called "family re-unification program" would lead to countless 16-17 year old anchor "children" being sent to Finland, and after they would get their residence permits, their entire families (clans, tribes) would follow. Whether they are really related to each other or not would not be controlled in any way (for example with DNA tests), so anyone could claim to be related to anyone else.

I repeat, while this issue of course concerns mainly Finland, it could and (if the law is passed) probably will prove hazardous to the rest of Europe as well.

The petition's creator intends to approach Finnish PM's about their stance on the proposed law, and to create a website around their responses later.

This petition has been on the net for only three days, but I expect it to break the 10,000 signatures mark by tomorrow morning at the latest. I posted this here because, as mentioned above, this issue concerns all of Europe.

Finland has much less non-European immigrants than the rest of western Europe, so if this law is passed, and Finland throws the gates open while the rest of Europe slams them shut, Finland will simply become a transit lounge for many 3rd-worlders on their way to Scandinavia, Britain and central Europe, where their friends and families already are.

But if the admins think the Finnish section would be more appropiate, go ahead and move it.

Good luck with this petition. I don`t know what it`s like in Finland, but in the UK the voices of the many are rarely, if ever, listened to. Let`s hope it`s different where you are. up

The 12,000th signature added today at exactly 18.00, Finnish time. Now it's 25 minutes later and there already are 138 more.

In the meantime, the leader of Finland's National Coalition Party's youth organisation is demanding that Thors resign, and many other politicians seem eager to jump Thors's sinking ship, too.

It seems that we, the common people, aren't quite as powerless as we thought. up
