Are Bulgarians Southern or Eastern Europeans?

Whatever they want to be, they are.

They look like Southerns to me, with some exceptions.

Mostly Slav with their specific differences. I wouldn't consider them Mediterranean, since their Thracian racial component is significant but lower than their slavic one, and culturally they're mostly slavic.

I consider Bulgarians and Romanians to be Southern, but most consider Romanians to be Eastern, so if the Romanians are Eastern, so too are Bulgarians, as they are extremely close in terms of genetics and in history.

Bulgarians are south eastern Europeans. It's obvious.
And about phenotipes and cultures Europeans can't be divided into south, east, north etc....I can make an example, Portugual and Greece are both South European countries...do they have any cultural connection? No they are totally different cultures, even religion and alphabets are different.

i think bulgarians have to do with both eastern and southern euro , under every aspect (phenotype , culture , mentallity)

Both, but I voted south because "east" goes so far east, and, frankly if we're talking looks, west as well
