Default Tito's military island Vis - "The Forbidden Island"

In Vis you can visit the place from which 1944. Tito said the historical sentence: "Tuđe nećemo - svoje ne damo".
On the island there is also Tito's cave where Josip Broz Tito lived during one period of the Second World War.The island was covered with imitation of stones and stone houses that enemies would not see the military base from the air.

Tito's 1944 cave on island Vis

After the failure of German offensive on Drvar (Bosnia and Herzegovina) with the goal of capturing Yugoslav partisans leader Josip Broz Tito, Vis island served as a new headquarters to the marshal.

At dawn of June 7th, 1944, Tito arrived at Komiza port and than to the nearest escort located in the hamlet of Borovik, where there were two natural caves. The higher one was arranged for Tito. Its natural extension to form lobby was used as a dining room and meeting rooms. In a small recess of this expansion there was arranged a space for his dog Tiger. The cave continues to enlarge into two separated cells - in one was placed desk and chair on which there was a German inductor phone, and in the other cell Tito's bed. The surroundings of the cave were also regulated, both for safety reasons and to improve conditions for the stay. Marshal at the end of August continuously lived and worked in the cave "despite bad experience in Drvar he was still prone to the caves" (Maclean, British commander who helped Tito to reach Vis).

This site attracts many foreign tourists, who don't miss the chance to stand inside the caves.

Tito would be ashamed of his own kin, the Croats, for destroying Yugoslavia if he was alive today.

Indeed, it looks like a lovely place.

    More information in english:

"Marshal Tito arrives with the British battle ship Blackmore to Komiža and immediately continues his trip to the cave on Mount Hum which is untill today still called Tito's cave ...
Beside the Tito's cave, on this Vis Special excursion you will visit the place from which 1944. Tito said the historical sentence: "Tuđe nećemo - svoje ne damo" ("We want nothing of others – ours we wont give!"),
the house of the British embassy and locations where your still able to see big partizan-comunist transparents, deleted after the collapse of Yugolavija. In the village Plisko poje we'll visit the location of the former runway of the airport from the 2nd World War, used for purposes of U.S. bombers B-52, Liberators and the British Halifax's and Spitfire Squadron of BAF.

The excursion includes a visit of the allies commandos memorial place and many details about the time when Marshal Tito had led the National Liberation struggle of the battlefields of whole Yugoslavia from the undefeated island Vis, about 15 000 soldiers on the island, the Dalmatian people exile through Vis to El Shatt (Afrika), 20th of January 1944. and 150 partizans on one square meter of the island etc.

It will become clear to you why Marshal Tito decided that afer the war Vis shoud become the "Forbidden island".

An additional option is a continuation of the tour to the village house where Tito slept and held his meetings. During the meal made by recipes from domestic gastronomy, folowed by the island's wine, you'll hear some more anecdotes from the time when Marshal Tito and the Commissioners stayed on the island of Vis, known as the "Undefeated fort of the Adriatic".

The waters around Vis are famous for its offshore islands Biševo, Sv. Andrija (St Andrew), Jabuka (Apple) and Palagruža.
The special attraction is Biševo with a unique phenomenon of the Blue Cave, which has been visited by thousands of tourists each year.
