Just 12 miles outside of Kansas City, Mo., is the lovely community of Overland Park, Kan. This family-friendly suburb in America's heartland has a four-season climate and is opening a 12-field, artificially turfed, fully lit soccer complex in the late summer. "Soccer is a big sport in this community," says Mayor Carl Gerlach. Meanwhile, at the Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead, kids can visit nearly 200 farm animals, toss a bobber into a fishing pond, or take a ride in a horse-drawn wagon. The 17-mile-long Indian Creek Trail makes for a great bike ride. At the same time, sports fans are only a short car ride away from a Kansas City Chiefs football game or a Kansas City Royals baseball game. In addition, "we have three different school districts in Overland Park," Gerlach says. "All three have been nationally ranked and won awards."

The soccer fields are right across from the Deanna Rose farmstead, along with a skate park. It really does look pretty damn nice. Makes me wanna start playing soccer!

His city of 171,000+ is actually a little over 2% black. It is also only 12 short miles from Kansas City, which is 31% black.

Given the demographics, which includes the fact that the median gross income of residents in his city is almost twice that of residents in either Kansas or Missouri, I am guessing that his city is the place where the wealthier people of Kansas City move to when they want to "get out of the city." Almost every major city has places like that.... sometimes they are independent cities and sometimes they are just suburban neighborhoods. Either way, I don't see anything uncommon or special about it. Sure, it's an excellent place to live if you have the money.

There´s lots of blacks and mexicans just north of me in the county I like to call Crimedotte. Some have begun to "move on up" and have started trickling down here to Johnson County.

There about 500,000 non-Whites in Kansas out of 2.8 million. It use to be over 95%.

Kansas always votes Republican, but I live in Johnson County on the border of Missouri. I see soccer moms and businessmen driving around with damn Obama stickers all over their cars.

Soccere has caught on as a middleclass sport among Whites. But it hasn't translated into big bucks for professional soccer in the US.

Kansas always votes Republican, but I live in Johnson County on the border of Missouri. I see soccer moms and businessmen driving around with damn Obama stickers all over their cars.

Those are the kind of affluent White liberals who vote black to ease their subconscious guilt over not wanting to live near those people.
