The German Left has launched an unprecedented attack on Chancellor Angela Merkel's conservative government, due to its Wednesday snubbing of the parliament's decision to retroactively pay compensation to Holocaust survivors who worked in the ghettos during World War II for the Nazis.

The coalition factions stated in the Bundestag that they will not support paying compensation to the 20,000 Holocaust survivors in question.

It's not about forced labour, it is about hired labour that worked in ghetto work shops and had a work contract, some money of their pay being deducted and paid into the German welfare system. The claims are legal under the German social system.

So the only way of extracting money from Germany now is via pension claims for voluntary contract work for Germany in WWII.
Therefore you can read flabbergasting statements like: "I liked to work in the ghetto", "I applied for work in the ghetto" etc.
