Default Help me figure out my father's ancestry!

He was born in Spain, but part of his family's origins are unknown. Some people have told me that he looks atypical for a Spaniard.

I think that the unknown part of his ancestry is possibly French. They were, according to family lore, European settlers in the Caribbean.

Where would you place him? Does he seem French to you?

It is also possible that he is of Italian, Corsican, Irish, or Austrian descent.

Do any of those options seem likely?

Does he look 100% Euro to you? As far as I know, he is but I know race mixing was fairly common in the Caribbean.

His smile is a little off in this one because he had just had mouth surgery.

Nothing "mixed" about him. He looks 100% European.

He does but his eyes look a little dark to be Austrian etc. I think he could be Spanish but because of his secrecy I'd say either Basque or something else (Jewish?). His surname might help (assuming its his real one).

He's not really secretive about his ancestry, he just doesn't really know the whole picture. I've always found the whole Caribbean aspect of it to be rather mysterious and fascinating.

Most of his ancestors last names that I know of are Spanish.

One interesting one that I've come across is "Soustache". It seemed French to me but I haven't been able to find anything about it in French sources.

I recommend 23andme to you and your dad.

To me, he looks SW European, or rather to say pan-South European.

Thanks! I've always been interested in getting a 23andme test. How detailed are the results? Do they tell you where specifically your ancestors come from or just the general region?
