I have a lot of contact to Balkan people via Internet and in real life and yes they are quite different.
What attracts the attention the most is the "Everyone against everyone" mentality. Croats hate Serbs, Serbs hate Albanians, Macedonians hate Greeks, Turks hate Greeks and so on.
+ in every country lives at least minority of a nation and because this isn't enough there are also 3 different religions in this area.
So I feel always insecure how to interact with them. I don't want to be involved because if you say "nation XY is right" you automatically piss of some other nation(s).
The people there seem very hard and a bit chaotic. But if the family is involved... better run!
But even there were hard times for the Balkan they always seem to be happy. Nobody really worries in Balkan.
That's just my experiences.
E.g.
I mentioned the Macedonians. Now the Greek users hate me because I didn't say FYROM. But if I say FYROm Macedonians hate me...
Very complicated!
