Indeed, Micciché (like the Sicilian autonomist politician Gianfranco Micciché - from Palermo) and Cuffaro (like the former President of Sicily, Salvatore Cuffaro - from Agrigento) are common surnames of MENA origin.

Micciché might be from a Greek origin nevermind.

Name Meaning: Italian (Micciché): habitational name from a place (recorded in Greek as Mitzekenion), which stood on the site of present-day Villalba or Alimena.

I would imagine Cuffaro is derived from Kuffar/Kafir, the Arab Muslim word for a nonbeliever.

Butera comes from one of the Arabic word for shepherd (butirah). That is also Ariana Grande's surname on one side of the family. And she is quite on the exotic end phenotypically.

But some also suggest it comes from a Greek word 'boutyras' which means butter seller.

It's also the name of a village in Caltanissetta. Her relatives may be named after the town, not the word.

It's a surname indicating origin in that town probably. But do you think it's more likely to be of Arabic or Greek origin?

The name itself, Arabic, but whether it implies that someone who lived there was of Arabic origin, I don't know.

Like, the Sicilian name for Enna is still Castrugiuvanni, which is of Arabic origin, but the Arab name for Enna was in turn derived from the Greek name, thinking that Enna was derived from the name John. Toponyms are very messy.

I don't know how anyone could think the name Enna comes from the Greek name for John (Yannis, Giannis, etc.) because Enna was originally named Hennaion which is where the name Enna evolved from.

I double-checked my Middle Eastern cluster on 23andMe's Global Similarity, and the one person who showed up on there was the cousin whose mother was from Sciacca.

I'm not surprised. Sciacca is the most Arab town on the island.

The girl I just sent you in that parody video probably would fit in Sciacca best if you had to put her in Sicily.
