How many languages do you speak? Also, is English used by the government?

Yes. English is the official of all the official languages. Everybody speaks English and all governmental communications are in English. Also, newspapers are in English or Afrikaans, so you have a choice which of the two you want to buy.
I speak English and Afrikaans fluently and enough Xhosa to get by. And then German too but that's not an official language!

mal was! Haha! Ja, ich kann Deutsch sprechen.
Tech support is in English and Afrikaans. You can request in another language if you are having problems.
Yes I can. I started with some Xhosa lessons at school when I was about 8, so clicks aren't a problem for me. Probably because I started so young. Adults who start learning find them very difficult. There are only 3 different clicks. But they come out a little different depending on the vowel after the click.

The soapies are also multilingual.
There is one popular soapie which is in Afrikaans only with English subtitles. Then there are two African language soapies.
The other soapies are English with scenes in Afrikaans, Sotho, Xhosa etc depending on the characters who are on screen at the moment. They all have subtitles in English, even the English parts! Soapies in three languages are the most popular because they appeal to a wide range of people.
