I know that some Circassians settled in Kosovo in the last century of the Ottoman Empire, what happened to them?

I heard that due to the fact they betrayed some Albanian families, most fleed back to Chechnya & Circassia. I even heard something about mixed families being split in half, appareantly the treason was too much one could handle.

I know about the Cerkezi surname, but it's an acquired one, not patrilineal or whatever.
