Looks similar in Japan as well. I guess the Netherlands is more "quieter" than it's German and Japanese counterparts when it comes to public transportation and rush hours. My maternal cousin had been in the Netherlands before the whole pandemic kicked in, and told me that you can explore the entire city of Amsterdam without going in some taxi like here for example. Like, he told me that you can explore the city by simply walking or by a bicycle like in Copenhagen, Denmark.

America destroyed its public transport system as well as its railways and in the past most people didn't have cars there either (until the public transport companies were bought up by the car industry and destroyed) and there are a ton of wealthy countries (just like the Netherlands and even more so in some others) were car ownership is considered a drag. Only a minority of people in let's say Japan have a car and they wouldn't want one. Not when they see the bills and they don't even need one so why they have one ? Enforced car ownership by destroying public transport is nothing but corporate welfare: telling people that they need something by destroying any alternatives. And no: identity is formed by your roots, your character, your experiences, your beliefs and your identity are all shaped by your environments and your roots. Deal with it.
