They lyrics (written by Jim) are about abortions from a collection of poems he wrote called 'Abortion Stories', after he felt bad when a girlfriend became pregnant and he paid her to get an abortion.

The section of the lyrics about 'Indians scattered on dawn's highway bleeding... ghosts crowd the young child's fragile eggshell mind' is a reference to the road accident and dead Amerindian bodies scattered over the highway, that Jim saw as a child.

He claimed on the day of that accident, the spirit of a Shaman left a dead Amerindian that he saw on the road... and entered his mind when he was four years old.



Guitarist Robby from The Doors (who wrote the song Light My Fire) explains that Jim wrote the poetry about abortions for Peace Frog at 2:45 onwards.

Robby explains with 'Light My Fire' that Jim had asked him to write a song that would be universal and last forever... and Jim told Robby to not just write a song that was only about today... but something that would last and that future generations could relate to eternally.

So Robby thought of the four main elements of Fire, Water, Earth, Air... and picked to write a song about the element of fire.... flames of hot passion.
