As always, opera on Sunday for me. today is a brutal double feature with both recorded in the sixties!
Christa Ludwig and Walter Berry were married at the time and singing partners. He kills her in both works.
Bartok's "Bluebeard's Castle" is about an hour long and is Bartok so it is spooky.
"Wozzeck" is a primary example of Expressionism in opera. Herzog made a film version of the play.
The recording is the issue here. This recording is for the singing. If you are new to the opera, jump in with the Abbado or Boulez recording first/
