Vojnik, from which town are they?

There are some gypsies, and a few have quite strange names.

I would assume somewhere up north, most likely Skopje, judging by the odd 'ic' ending surnames which are rare in the south and almost none existent in the south east.

Too be honest, I copy pasted these photos from another forum thread titled "Macedonians", so I didn't really have a good look at them all. Can you quote the ones that look gypsy to you?

Interesting. -ev, -ov ending surnames are more common in the south I guess?

Now I examined carefully and only one looks gypsy. A girl called Sinanovik, around 5th or 6th picture.

In my opinion the whole bunch look very much like the students one can see in Sofia. Mostly Pontid, Alpinid, Gorid, Dinarid and Borreby and in isolated cases Nordid, Baltid and East Med.

    Here is she:

-ov and -ev endings are most common in the east, in places like Strumica, Delchevo, Dojran and Shtip. -evski and -ovski are most common through out Northern, Western and South-Western regions. In the North you will find some people with surnames ending in -ic.

Anyway. The inclusion of -ski at the end our surnames is a new phenomenon from the 40's given to us by commies. Maybe in an attempt to create distinctiveness from Bulgarians? Before that, everyone had -ev and -ov ending Surnames.

Agreed, she does look Gypsy influenced. And I guess her surname is a clue to her gypsy heritage (Sinan).

Are those people Serbs or with Serbian ancestry, or the surname doesn't have much to do with their ancestry?

Some are, some aren't. For example Mike Ilitch in the US is a Macedonian, who had his name changed (from Iliev) before migrated to the US. There are some Serbs with ski endings to their names too. There are no hard and fast rules.

I don't pay much attention at people's eye colour, but on these photos seems like blue is present a lot.
