It's required by his religion. I don't think there's anything wrong with allowing them to wear their turbans or carry their swords (another religious requirement), provided that they are kept in a manner that they cannot be used as weapons.

Sikhs are not a troublesome immigrant group whatsoever.

This is making the news only because RACIS AND INTOLERANTS is involved. Don't hear much about some bums getting fired for refusing to obey the company's dress code they're working for. Religious people don't deserve any special legal rights.

Their religion requires them to wear it. It's not a matter of choice for them, like it would be for you.
