10 REASONS TO VISIT ISTANBUL RIGHT NOW !!!
1- The whole city is one massive human art installation. There are thousands of people staring in silence at a building. The Governor has been doing a post-constructivist stand-up routine for weeks.
2- It's full of surprises, a must for any great holiday. One minute the police are beating journalists, the next they're reading Tolstoy.
3- It's pretty empty so you'll get a great deal. My advice would be the Divan Hotel - compassionate staff, beautiful location and excellent medical facilities.
4- It has the only park in the world that is completely open to the public but which you can't enter.
5- The Gas Festival 2013 is getting rave reviews. The New York Post says "5* - after a muted reception in Diyarbakir in previous years, this year's event is being lapped up by the locals who just can't get enough and keep coming back for more".
6- Ouokl.
7- Every night at 9pm, the World's largest percussion orchestra performs an Opera for Tayyip, a cacophonous medley generously sponsored by Tefal.
8- The government offers free tours of the city all the way to Kazlıcesme. If you're planning to go anywhere else, you get free front seat tickets to the Gas Festival.
9- There are great short-term employment opportunities. For example, the authorities are looking for people to represent the inflation and compound annual growth rate lobbies. Bring down a government and get a tan all in the same week!
10- The Turkish people are among the bravest, kindest, most creative people in the world. You could learn a thing or two from them while you're here.

Turkey: As order is restored, fears of a witch hunt surface
http://www.jpost.com/Middle-East/Tur...surface-318165ISTANBUL – The anti-government demonstrations that started as a peaceful protest against the demolition of a park in Istanbul’s Taksim Square, went on to involve over 2.5 million protesters across 79 out of Turkey’s 81 provinces, according to the Interior Ministry.
The protests have been winding down since riot police retook Gezi Park in a June 15 raid, which was followed by mass arrests.
The park remains closed to the public; the demonstrations continue sporadically in other places, most notably in Ankara. Many have since adopted the use of passive resistance stunts, such as the popular “standing man” protest, in which individual demonstrators stand motionless in random locations and stare at the national flag or a portrait of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of the Turkish Republic.
Four people have died and 8,041 have received treatment for injuries since the start of the protests on May 28; of the injured, 11 lost eyes and 60 are in serious condition, according an update by the Turkish Medical Association on Thursday.
As calm returns to the streets, the government’s focus has shifted to identifying the initiators of the protests. According to the Turkish daily Radikal, more than 5,000 people have been detained in connection to the demonstrations, with 85 of them awaiting trial.
Government officials have accused a number of artists, journalists and members of the business community of being part of a conspiracy to topple the government.

Taksim Square was quiet yesterday morning (Sunday). Large Turkish flag atop the flagpole in the center of the square and the portrait of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk still depends on the cultural center next to the park nearby gas. The only sign of turbulent demonstrations that took place in just a few hours earlier had five water cannons to disperse demonstrators camped in the square, and a few dozen riot police from the Turkish police patrolling the area - some in uniform and some in civilian clothes. Combustion created by the unprecedented protests against Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is still in progress, but the results already feel the political system in Turkey. like Benjamin Netanyahu after the last election, even if Erdogan did not go home tomorrow, the status is in decline ....
