Yes, I figured as much. I am far from being a connoisseur of this type of music but it reminds me of some synth soundtracks from 16-bit games I used to play in the early 90s. Laid-back with a progressive, uplifting beat.

Yeah, it was common, especially in japanese games. About 16 bit don't know, since the audio chip was bad, but in late Sega CD, Nintendo 64, first PS and Sega Saturn and Dreamcast it was common to hear such sound (atmospheric jungle/dnb, melodic detroit techno, early piano house and trance stuff)

Sonic CD music came first in my mind.
