Albanian language doesn't sound like any other language in the world.

To me, it sounds like a combination of Lithuanian, Russian, and Italian.

Am I the only one who has contemplated a possible link between Lithuanian/Latvian and Greek? A lot of surnames look coincidentally similar even, and I have been told that the Greek language would have come from the north.

    +1.

I had Hungarians tell me something similar. My last name sounds very Hungarian.

Honestly people are always talking about Greek and Armenian being related, but I have read that ancient Greek shares words with modern Lithuanian too.

Greek and Spanish language have similar balance in terms of vowels and consontants, and some letter similarity.
A friend of mine have said me in the past, that it would sound like Spanish, if we weren't talking that fast
But when speaking English, Greeks have an accent I would describe as distinctly "Eastern European", not that dissimilar from a stereotypical Russian accent.
True as well. If a Greek has the accent (like me), its very harsh. No soft ''r'' from us

It sounds awfully similar to Chechen, Georgian and Armenian languages. The many Turkish words in Albanian makes it sound a bit Central Asian too.

    A personal anecdote:

At my job, last summer I remember a couple of my coworkers always saying how there were several Russian customers, one of whom was an older lady who people found kind of intimidating. I kept hearing about it and was thinking to myself.. I haven't seen any Russians.. it wasn't long until I realized that they were mistaking the Greeks from my town, mainly from northern mainland Greece, for Russian. And it turns out, the mean old Russian lady people kept complaining about, was Greek.

Since most of the people in my town mistake Bulgarians for Russians, and these Greeks looked similar to Bulgarians and sounded 'Eastern European' it was not inconceivable they'd be perceived as Russians.

What is your problem? I said it sounds like it has Chinese elements . Do you seriously think I'm trying to make a Greek-Chinese connection? Everyone has an opinion. But yours seems awfully motivated to make Albanians look bad.
