I don't think this is true. More like an old wives tale.

Women are supposed to be younger so they can take care of their husbands when the husbands get old.Males also age better then females so the age discrepancy evens out later. The male should be older or at least the same age then the female.

I disagree with this earlier post of mine now. Women used to marry older men because women never worked so they married an older man because their family married them off as an expense reduction. Now that women are financially stable most couples now are around the same age. Common for the women to be even 3-5 years older nowadays.
