SANAA, Yemen (AP) — A Yemeni security official says gunmen have killed two soldiers and wounded three in an ambush in a province where the military is battling al-Qaida.

The official says the soldiers were attacked Saturday while traveling in a military vehicle in Marib province, east of the capital Sanaa. The official spoke on condition of anonymity according to regulations.

The army has gone after militants in Marib who are believed to be behind attacks on power lines that feed electricity to Sanaa.

(BBC) Kamal Hamami, of the Free Syrian Army's (FSA) Supreme Military Council, was meeting members of the rival group "to discuss battle plans".

An FSA spokesman said he was told by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant that they had killed Mr Hamami. [...]

A spokesman for the FSA's Supreme Military Council said Mr Hamami had been driving through Latakia when he and fellow fighters encountered a checkpoint run by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant - the main group linked to al-Qaeda.

The rebels manning the checkpoint had refused to let him pass, saying he would need to get permission from their leader, and he had told them they had to take their checkpoint down.

As the argument raged, according to this account, one of the fighters - said to be a foreign jihadi from Iraq - raised his weapon and shot Kamal Hamami dead.

"The Islamic State phoned me saying that they killed Abu Basir and that they will kill all of the Supreme Military Council," FSA spokesman Qassem Saadeddine told Reuters news agency.

This nothing to do with Islam at all, because Kirkuk is a disputed city between Baghdad and the Kurds. Also there is ethnic tensions among the Turkmens and Kurds in the region. The Kurds want to take Kirkuk because it has vast oil wealth, but there is a problem that it's mostly inhabited by Turkmens. Kirkuk is in Kurdistan. It's not disputed at all it's just been settled by Arabs in a policy to Arabise the area precisely because of the oil. Islam is Arab imperialism.

Kirkuk is not in Kurdistan. It's disputed. True Arab did settle in Kirkuk, most of whom were Shia Arabs from the South, but they are a minority, the region is mostly and is inhabited by Turkmens. Turkmens are the natives of that land. The oil should not be only for Kurds, but they know without any natural resources their hopes at complete independence is dashed out. They also see the Turkmens as a threat because of their alliance with Turkey and wanting a united rather than balkanized Iraq. This is not about Islam or Arabs, since Arab play very little in this. The conflict over Kirkuk is mostly between Turkmens and Kurds. Baghdad of course supports the Turkmens in this regard. If the Kurds attempt to annex Kirkuk, Ankara might intervene.

Did you guys mention the Jihadis in Egypt that killed soldiers at the outposts? The Egyptian army was sent in to clean them out this month also. They were palestinian terrorists.

I think they're from Sinai...which has more affinities with Palestine than Egypt, but is a good buffer and strategic (Israelis must have really needed the camp david accords to hand them so readily over to Egypt)
