I went there today to get TA some exclusive pictures. Pamphlet claims it is the biggest medieval ruin in Northern Europe.

Solovetsky Monastery. 8 years orthodox monks kept the defense against the tsar's warriors (1668-1676). In Soviet times in Monastery was located one of the worst prisons.

Some beautiful, if not a little bit run down, fortresses throughout the Peloponnese in Greece. Each was founded in ancient times, only to be fortified and rebuilt by successive waves of Byzantines, Franks, Venetians, and finally Ottomans. Each saw a lot of actual combat as well. For example, The Byzantines in the acrokorinth withstood a 4 year siege by the Latins. Its kind of cool moving from the ancient Roman keep, to a section of wall with cannon ports and a Venetian Sphinx embossed in the wall. Keep in mind, each of these fortresses are on top of mountains.
