    O apelido Mello é dito resultar de uma alcunha mas numa família remota de nobre ascendência e portanto, também não poderia ser de ascendência Judaica. Alguns Judeus podiam ser muito ricos mas normalmente não recebiam títulos nobilísticos que costumavam estar reservados para os indígenas ou para estrageiros que já os possuiam.
