That thread seems like a bait for arguing with the absolute Yes and No answers. That's maybe why it has 150 pages

In my opinion, modern Macedonians surely have some ancient Macedonian DNA, since not all ancient Macedonians went to conquest and the remaining ones mixed with Slavs, Bulgars, Thracians, Illyrians and so on.

Do I think the ancient Macedonian DNA in modern Macedonians is significant enough to claim ancient Macedonian heritage? No.

I think that because the ancient Macedon kingdom before Alexander didn't include today's North Macedonian territory and the ancient Macedonians who remained there weren't that numerous after the gigantic conquest. Throughout medieval history the only times you can see Macedonia being mentioned is when the topic is either Alexander and the ancient kingdom, the region/province of Macedonia or the Macedonian dynasty ruling over Byzantium.
