More than 1 million Portuguese immigrated to Brazil after it's independence, specially in the late 19th century and early 20th century. So that makes them recent immigrants compared with Brazilian of Colonial heritage either being pardos or almost full European.

Italians started in ter racial marriage in 1910 here, according to studies. Italians, german and a bit spanish was the largest group to immigrat to brazil in the washing periodo. Portuguese people made mulattos, tri racials, harnizos etc, while italians dont. And no, they didnt promoted portuguese immigration, mostly came from colonial periods, only in 1920 we had 1.078.437 italians just in são paulo state, then compare it

They're genetically closer to Germans by far, it's not even close. They're around 3 times closer to Germans than to Iberians. Not only that, but they have no real connection the Spaniards beside both sharing some haplogroups and both being Europeans. Irish are for example even closer to Hungarians, Poles and even Russians compared to Iberians. The Iberian-Irish connection was made up by Iberian wannabe n. Euros.

Iberians were pretty much always put into the category of mainly atlanto-med, small med, ibero-insular or south med. Never atlantid.
