The riflebird dance somewhat reminds me of NZ haka:

The Maori Haka. They all look like gang members, imo. Certainly not upstanding members of society, here or Australia. You can hear it in the persons accent who is recording the event (although you probably can't see or hear it). Plenty of 501's coming from Queensland these days...

Indeed, when used appropriately, it is a moving display of Maori culture and respect. Unfortunately, during the last 20 years, it has been overplayed and overused by any and everyone thanks to the All Blacks.
No, we were not taught the haka at school. The most common Maori folk song taught in NZ schools is Tūtira Mai Ngā Iwi.
If you skip to 0.23 seconds, for a moment, you hear it sung well. Almost no renditions of it on youtube are worthwhile listening to.
The large part of my family are Australians Even my best friend is now an Australian, living in Perth.

Yeah well, many of my best friends have been/are Kiwis and all of them know how to do haka.
This is also the people, their culture, art, music and dance I have been exposed to besides the mainstream white Australian culture:

Odd that you have such a connection to Melanesian and Pacific culture. I grew up with it around me and even with Polynesian friends, it had no influence on any part of my life. I neither dislike or like it.
I do not like hearing people stereotype all Polynesians as violent though. Most are god-fearing and decent people. They need to stay off the fire water.

Perhaps it is that I have no leg to stand on when it comes to racial purity or superiority lol. hence, I have no psychological barrier. Besides, I do understand hunter-gatherer mentality from within.
LOL! You can tell that to the “Finnic” as well … we don’t drink in moderation and often do get rolling drunk …
