Bird poop facials, the way to the Geisha look?

Shizuka New York, a high end beauty salon, is now offering an all-natural beauty treatment that they call the Geisha Facial. The main ingredient is bird droppings. At a price of $180 (€135), clients pay top dollar for the chemical-free therapy, which includes cleansing, exfoliation, extraction and massage. Clients also receive a green tea collagen mask and moisturiser.

Master aesthetician and celebrity facialist Shizuka Bernstein imported the sticky technique from her native Japan. The idea came about after she recalled how her mother told her that Japanese geishas would use nightingale droppings to cleanse their faces from their heavy white makeup.

Despite a popular misconception, the bird poop facial does not have any foul odour. The guano is deodorised with powder and mixed with rice bran. Shizuka says that a natural enzyme in the droppings exfoliates skin quite well and gives you a 'shine'.

The waste is not collected from 'Central Park's pigeons' according to Shizuka. Special birds are raised in Japan, which provide the raw materials for the unique coating, which are then imported into the US. Shizuka also mentioned that she did not recommend for people to go out and gather bird poop from the street to slather it on their own faces.
