Central Europe to me means the former Austro-Hungarian Empire.

No way Central Europeans as how they are meant in general (West slavic countries and Germany).

But yes, they are intermediate to both south and north, even though their most measurable aspects (language, culture, mentality, racial types etc) are closer to South

Genetically the French are more Central European than your Western Slavic countries!!! I'll give an example of the Czech Republic biogeographic genomic picture is the following:
46% (Eastern Europe)
28% (Western & Central Europe)
11% (Southern Europe)
4% ( Asia Minor)
4% (Jewish Diaspora)
2% (Central Asia)
2% (Scandinavia)
To remind you that Slavic homeland is in the east (Ukraine) and Slavs displaced and intermingled with people who lived in Central Europe before them, the Celts!

Culturally they are Southern European but genetically they're more Central European.

The Normans ('North Men') had some Anglo Saxon and Viking settlement, influence, and ancestry from Northern Europe... and the Britanny people are Celts. There's also been Germanic influence in France from the Franks.

Depends on the region of France. e.g. Normany is part of northern Europe. Mediterranean coast of France is part of southern Europe, while most of France is part of central Europe.
