Default Americans of European descent? Do you feel close to Europe??

I don't feel close to Europe except to Sicily, Southern Italy, and Greece. The rest seems too foreign for me to make any connection to. I feel distant from the rest. I feel closer to Argentina than I do Sweden or Switzerland.

Europe is pretty much a place that gets walked all over and they are obsessed with either being overly civil or overly genocidal. Freedom of speech and gun rights seems foreign to them. At least in Latin America people tend to look the other way..

That is actually quite a good summary.

I feel closely affiliated with my Italian heritage, but not really modern Italy or Europe in general. I am more interested in Italy's more distant history, however. In hte present day, I feel closer to America. Not only do I feel closer to America, I love America. There are many things I don't like about politics here, and stuff like that. However, it's no good to let that get in the way of loving America, which was always my desire.

I think white Americans who take pride in and identify with our various ancestral roots are often misinterpreted by Europeans. While in some cases white Americans (particularly those with recent immigrant ancestry) DO really want to be just like their people back in Europe, it is very common for us not to.

We Americans, like any other nation, sort of need our own national origin myths. What's more, there's an innate need to relate that concept to your own ancestry, as Europeans naturally do. I think many white Americans find that in the whole "nation of immigrants" narrative. With Italian heritage in particular, I take it a step further: more along the lines of what MagnusAurelius said in this thread. There's a reason I put my ethnicity as "Italian-American" rather than just "Italian." I think if you can't really claim a special connection between your country of citizenship and your heritage, then that's where a real disconnect emerges. You feel rootless and/or too enamored of a distant land, which is not so great. For me, I genuinely feel there is no good reason for us Italian-Americans to divorce our ethnicity from our nationality. The two are deeply connected.

If you don't know your roots then you are a wishy washy tumblweed in the the whirlwind of a rootless cosmopolitan egoism ideology that the Jews try to pedal.

Yes, I deffinitely feel close to Europe. Both my country and family have always kept Europe relevant.

However I feel closer to the new world as I was born here and its where my ancestors decided to come to.
