The source is a neo-Ottomanist figure indeed. He says he learned from the parliament records that a Bulgarian delegation came to Ankara to ask of that towards the end of the war. I can neither confirm nor deny myself.

Sounds like a rather bogus claim then.

I dont say it must be true but after Bulgaria saw what the red army was capable of maybe they saw it better to be with Turkey which was at that time really secular.
This post is not to offend Bulgarians.

I doubt Bulgaria was interested in becoming anyone's colony. If anything, Russians were viewed positively to neutral back then. Bulgaria declared war to UK and USA but not to USSR.

Deffinately Germany from historic point of view. In the periods, when Bulgaria was German influenced, there was prosperity. However I think we are really connected to Russia, not only because of the liberation, but because we are really culturally similar. But both Bulgaria and Russia need to deal with similar demons: lack of real democrasy, respect of other peoples rights, respect of the law, real respect of the law, the search for "messiah" who will "save" us. In this respect I think both Bulgaria and Russia need strong western influence and intervention. So in other words, Germany's influence is the most fruitful for Bulgaria, but we remain the closest and the most similar to Russia.
I wont even comment the Turkey relation. Turkey feels alien. I have been to Turkey. Its not a culture we understand. Its not something we can connect to...
I can connect to Serbia, Romania and Greece, but not to Turkey. Though I really liked the Turks, it did feel really totally different culture.

Bosnia isn't state enough powerful to be alley to anyone.
We just do what uncle Sam say to us to do.
I guess we should not be ashamed, most "independed" European states works on that way.
Some others are more Russian puppets, but still just puppets.

The best 'ally' a country can ever have, are its own people. Everything else is just a bonus.
