Reuters says 20 dead after two car bombs exploded at military camp, while AFP puts death toll at 40.

Dozens of people have been killed in twin attacks in Yemen, news agencies say, with two car bombs exploding at a military camp early on Friday and a separate shooting targetting soldiers.

The car bombs exploded at a military camp in Shabwa in southern Yemen, a local security source said, with reports saying about 20 people were killed.

Gunmen killed around 10 soldiers in an attack on a military patrol in the town of Mayfaa early on Friday in the southern Yemeni province of Shabwa, a security official told Reuters.

The AFP news agency reported 40 dead in total in both attacks, citing military sources.

The cars were driven to the military camp by suspected members of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), the source told Reuters.

The gunmen later stole the vehicles belonging to the security forces and escaped, local residents told Reuters.
