    Default Ethnographic Regions of Europe

We've had a lot of discussion regarding the ethnographic classification of certain European countries, motivated mostly by the very polemical Atlantic Façade. While some defend that it is a cultural continuum from Iceland to Portugal, others criticize it, claiming that such continuum does not exist, and that countries like Ireland and Iceland are merely Northwestern European, while Portugal and Spain are Mediterranean.

It took me to think about the possibility of a country belonging to more than one ethnographic region, what at least for me, is something very plausible. If we look at the European populations, we will notice that most could fit in more than one ethnographic region.

Based on that I made this map, that shows what I consider to be the main European Ethnographic Regions. Please, have in mind that I mean no trolling, I simply don't know everything about every European nation, so sorry if your country ended up under a classification you do not agree. I'm open to critics:

    Revised map:

    West:

    Atlantic Façade

Compromises the Atlantic coast of Europe, grouping the regions that belonged to the Atlantic Trade culture in antiquity, having preserved strong Celtic influences.

    Northwestern Europe

Basically what one would call the Germanic Europe, and all the areas that had Germanic influences.

    Western Mediterranean

The old Western Roman Empire. Compromises all the Western Romance lands, notable for its Celto-Romance syncretism.

    Western Central Europe

The Western half of Central Europe, having Germanic, West Slavic and Romance influences. The core of the Austrian Empire and the old Zollverein.

    East:

    Eastern Central Europe

Basically the East Slavic nations and the main area under the Russian Influence Zone in the last two centuries.

    Northeastern Europe

The Regions related to the Baltic Sea and attached to it. Finnic, Baltic and Slavic are present and share this continuum.

    Eastern Mediterranean

The Eastern Part of the Mediterranean, basically the region that have significant Hellenic and/or Hellenistic influences.

    Southeastern Europe

The Balkans and the Black Sea. Basically Slavic and Albanian, but the area once inhabited by Illyriam and Thracian tribes. It is also the homeland of the Vlachs.

    Caucasus (?)

The Caucasus region is not regarded as European by many, but its relation with the continent is undeniable.

Very very nice map and table.

Belarus needs to be a little more Baltic in my opinion.

Should North African admixture be reflected in Spain?
    Spoiler!

A few tweaks and this could be the new standard race map of Europe.

I think the East Mediterranean region is more Anatolia/Levant; Italy/Greece is more Central Mediterranean.

Most of Anatolia is not Mediterranean. But this map is within a European context, not a Mediterranean one, and I think that explains why the map looks as it does.

You're right. From a European context, East Med is Italy/Greece. The map must definitely be political/cultural though, and not ethnic/geographical since you say Anatolia isn't really Med, but Cyprus is highlighted on there.
    Spoiler!
