Default Why do people assume the Romans had any genetic impact on Iberia and France?

The Romans were military invaders and never repopulated areas or had any major effect on the demographics of any region they conquered, only the culture. Why do people assume otherwise?

Legionaries were retired in the provinces. Tradesmen set up companies and businesses in the main ports and cities of the provinces.

But genetically there is no "Italic" haplogroup R1b in Iberia or France, which means autosomally the impact was limited. The populations of both regions would have been large enough to swallow whole any Roman invading group, except for the fact that the Romans were in charge and that's why the cultures are as they are.

And that's a small amount. There is no way that given the size of populations of Iberia and France back then that wandering legions of central Italian military men could displace that many whole populations and be their primary ancestry.

Invasions in Iberia had a tiny effect in genetic makeup of nowadays population, the biggest was the one of the Visigoths and they made up only 4-5% of total population. We are pretty much the same than in Neolithic.

because people assume that having a cultural impact, like the Romans did, implies an invasion or heavily populating an area.

That's of probably of ancient origin in France, with same origin as in Italy, not from the Romans, but in Iberia is very low the U152 is about 2-3%, and heavily Romanized areas like Andalusia show less than 1%

emm, emm, Bronze Age. Still, that's quite impressive.
