The opening ceromony was really good. I liked the beginning with the medieval villagers theme, then the industrial revolution and other music eras. It was moving. The smelting of a ring was brilliant. I was impressed by it and found the work done by people behind that should be appreciated. It won't suit everyone's tastes.

I'm not a great fan of opening ceremonies but decided to watch this one because I have a few friends taking the piss out of me for my cynical attitude to "London's Olympics"
I was pleasantly surprised although I heard and understood the criticism of the leftist production. As for selling London by the pound it did a good job. The Queen has a sense of humour and Mr Bean is pure comic genius. Jacques complimented us through gritted teeth and Lord Coe was as pompous as ever.
The music however was the high point. Song after song reminded me of the huge and varied talent produced over decades by the UK.Shame that Paul had to be trotted out again and I still don't get the Arctic Monkies even though I took the trouble to listen to the latest album three times over a few months ago...under duress
Forget the fact that it was ever so slightly multicultural and just rejoice in the fact that we're still a little quirky and eccentric
