Yes I was thinking about that also. This North_Sea component does seem to be quite strong in Finns as well who like you say like other Northern Europeans including Brits have pretty high frequencies of Y-DNA haplogroup I1. The correlation of course is as you noticed not perfect though. It is tempting to call the North_Sea component here Germanic based on it's distribution but I don't know if that would really make sense or if it would be to broad a generalization for it?

I think in this calculator it is broader. It certainly seems to have spread with Germanics but to have been something else before-hand if i had to guess based on the evidence. Like I1 - It has a heavy distribution in some decidedly non-Germanic areas, but also in Germanic areas. Perhaps it is related to either the closeness of Balto-Slavic to Germanic, or to the non-IE words (for example) in Germanic?

Again it's certainly not a 100% correlation, it's disproportionately high in the British Isles where I1 doesn't regularly exceed 15-20%, and also Ireland where it doesn't seem to exceed 5-10%.

Actually yes it is much broader than where Germanic peoples/speakers spread to in Europe. Keep in mind though that Finns who are non-IE speakers are descended genetically mostly from IE speaking peoples and also that a lot of Finnish genes came from the West (ie. Germanic/Scandinavian peoples carried these genes into Finland). The case of Britain and Ireland is also interesting. We know that Britain including Scotland has a lot of Germanic ancestry and I also think Ireland does on the whole as well. Or at least a lot of Irish genes came from a similar source to those of Germanic peoples. The North_Sea component here must be quite old and spread throughout Europe with numerous groups who spoke different IE languages. Like I said before I think it probably originated in similar groups spreading out of Central Europe at some point in the remote past.

Call me crazy but I think the area of most likely origin for the North_Sea component is in the area of Frisia, Northern Germany or Denmark. Groups from these areas could have easily spread it in all directions starting in pre-historic times.
