Ismail was born to Martha and Shaykh Haydar on July 17, 1487 in Ardabil. His father, Haydar, was the sheikh of the Safaviyya Sufi order and a direct descendant of its Kurdish[16][17][18] founder, Safi-ad-din Ardabili (1252–1334)

3 sources on wiki which prove he was Kurdish Did you know that his village was attacked by Turks and he lost his older brother?

There seems now to be a consensus among scholars that the Safavid family hailed from Persian Kurdistan,[23] and later moved to Azerbaijan, finally settling in the 11th century CE at Ardabil

Even the Kurdish emir Sharaf Khan Bidlisi wrote in Persian and not in Kurdish. Does that mean he was not Kurdish?
The grandfather of Shah Ismael was Uzun Hassan and Uzun Hasan was a pure Turkmen sultan of the Aq Qoyunlu dynasty

Ismail was also a prolific poet who, under the pen name Khatā'ī (which means "sinner" in Arabic) contributed greatly to the literary development of the Azerbaijani language,[14] he also contributed to Persian literature, though only a few specimens of his Persian verse have survived.[15]

He wrote in the Azerbaijani language,[41] and in the Persian language. He is considered an important figure in the literary history of Azerbaijani language and has left approximately 1400 verses in this language, which he chose to use for political reasons.[41] Approximately 50 verses of his Persian poetry have also survived.

Look who's in the first picture here

Turkic peoples were always in war with each other. The Gökturks for example were destroyed by the Toquz Oghuz confederation

The grandfather of Shah Ismael was Uzun Hassan and Uzun Hasan was a pure Turkmen sultan of the Aq Qoyunlu dynasty
Shah Ismael was ultimately descended from Safi-ad-din Ardabili, a Kurd. He is also descended from Firuz Shah Zarrin Kolah, who is also a Kurd and the founder of the Safavid dynasty. Like I said their family are originally from the Iranian part of Kurdistan but later on migrated to Ardabil where they mixed with Turkic people.

Ismail was also a prolific poet who, under the pen name Khatā'ī (which means "sinner" in Arabic) contributed greatly to the literary development of the Azerbaijani language,[14] he also contributed to Persian literature, though only a few specimens of his Persian verse have survived.[15]

My paternal family has greatly contributed to both Kurdish and Arabic literature. It doesn't make them Arab. He did have some Turkic ancestry and even Greek ancestry, he was of mixed heritage.

The Azeris themselves are a mixed people, having both Turkic and Iranic ancestry. Old Azerbaijani was in fact an Iranian language.

Ultimately, his dynasty's origins were Kurdish, who mixed into a family of Greek and Turkic heritage.

The court language of the Savavid empire was Azerbaijani Turkish until Isfahan became the capital. By the time of the establishment of the Safavid empire, the members of the family were already native Turkish-speaking and Turkicized. Shah Ismael was mixed yes but his mother tongue was Azerbaijani Turkish.

"Azeri" as an ethnonym has history before the 20th century. The people in question are the Oghuz Turks of Azerbaijan, who are no more mixed than the Kurds.
