Police have filed charges against one individual for threatening the poet Yahya Hassan.

Hassan reported 27 different threats made against him on Facebook. The 19-year-old poet with Palestinian roots is known for this criticism of both Islam and Middle-Eastern immigrant communities where, he says, neglect is rife.

Police report that of the 27 threats, six were sufficient to warrant thorough investigations. While two people have so far been charged, charges against one were dropped.

More cases to come
“At the moment I expect the prosecutor's office to raise charges in several of the cases in which the poet Yahya Hassan was threatened on Facebook," the head of public prosecutions, Dorit Borgaard, stated in a press release, adding that further investigations were needed.

In October, Hassan reported threats that were directed at him through the Facebook page of DR2 Deadline – a TV news programme on which he had featured – and his own profile on the social media website.

Police state that Hassan delivered screenshots of the Facebook pages and, after conducting investigations, decided that several of the threats against his life were against the law.

Hassan was assaulted in Copenhagen Central Station on November 18 by a known Muslim extremist who had served a seven-year sentence for terrorism.
