As for me, in the latest Eurogenes analysis that includes over 1,800 samples from over Europe, I seem to cluster most closely with the Danes:

Afrikaners are predominantly Dutch(including Frisian & Flemish),German and French, with other European admixtures as Scandinavian, British Isles to a minor extent Portuguese,Polish,Italian,Dutch Jews. They also have minor non-European admixtures from Hottentots, Malays. 85-90% of their genes are Europid. Before Apartheid, Dutch settlers sometimes freely mated with the Black Hottentots/Bushmen, this is something many don't know. Former president F.W. de Klerk who is predominantly of Dutch and French descent(He's fair, with blue eyes), also noted of an admixture in his lineage Indian and distant Khoi("Bushmen"). I see it in his nasal features, slightly off.

I went to school with a few Boers and we got pretty close, one of them became my best friend
I was in a band with one and we went to see Metallica in 2004 in concert. He was from Pretoria originally.
He was a unique person in that he wasn't really interested in athletics but he won the state high jump championship, was a hockey champion and also played first XV cricket for our college. He was probably 6'5 when he was 16 years old and his father and brother were also giants. He was also pretty good in the classroom too. Lol, i remember i was in his class for "Study of Religion" and we were asked to bring a bible to class. He brought this really old bible which was from a protestant sect, i had no idea what it was at the time but discovered later on that it was a Calvinist bible. He wasn't that religious though, nor were his family but they were pretty traditional. I went to their house heaps of times and they were really nice.
I remember though things about his character more than anything. He was so loyal, more than your average person and i admired that. If you were his friend he was protective over you. Just a good old school character that i didn't know existed anymore. I guess in that way, they kinda revived some of my faith in humanity. Unfortunately we lost contact after high school and just went separate ways. I heard he married a woman of Russian ancestry and she cheated on him and they divorced. I felt so bad for the guy because i knew how loyal he was and the whore just took advantage of it. He was only 19 when they married. I never got in touch again but i hope he didn't lose his loyalty because of that bad experience.
I used to work with a black south african woman, well she wasn't totally black but she was mixed from the cape i think... She looked way more SSA than white though. She had lived in Australia since a young age but she openly disliked whites. Especially white women, she used to call our supervisor a white whore. This was along time ago when i had not even graduated yet.
Anyway, i can't believe no-one has included some Afrikaner sports stars: including from the best (IMO) Rugby union team in the world.
Francois Louw:
Jannie Du Plessis:
Francois Botha:
Schalk Burger:
Adriaan Strauss:
South African Boerboel: Estate guarding farmer's dog.

I'm looking for people like me, who are crazy, fun, and not afraid of life. and one day when I find them, we'll escape, we'll break out of the zoo.

I have family and friends who have emigrated to Australia, it's quite sad that conditions have resulted in this. I mean 2 of my uncles (out of 5) live in Perth. And escaping like this is not an option for everyone, only upper middle class folk. The Boers up in the Transvaal will never leave, they've owned their land for centuries and they would rather fight to the death defending it than retreat.
We've built up a good squad, but I think NZ have a slight edge over us at the moment. Also, our local clubs have been under-performing in Super Rugby which doesn't bode well.
I'll add some more sports stars:
Rugby legend John Smit:
Simoné du Toit, shot putter:
Cameron van der Burgh, swimmer:
René Kalmer, long distance runner:
AB de Villiers, cricket star:
L. J. van Zyl, athlete:
Jean de Villiers, rugby captain:
Sunette Viljoen, javelin thrower:
Faf du Plessis, cricket player:
Hestrie Cloete, high jumper:
