What made you interested in genetics and ancestry?

I was always interested in my ancestry. I had a long talk with my paternal grandmother about her and my grandfathers (her husband) ancestors. I didn't have the chance to speak to my maternal grandparents because one of them died before I was born and the other when I was 5 years old. I wasn't aware of genetics as we perceive them here (percentages of baltid, north-atlantid, med and so on) but I knew what I am (ethnically) and I didn't expect any surprises so I guess I took the test out of boredom and because some of the people here took it ... and I thought to myself, shiiiit ... it would be cool to have my own percentages ...

An albanian member on forum asked if i was going to do 23andme to compare with others. From there I wasn't just interested in our genetics but how we compared with others too around the world. That's how it works, you can't look at where you stand globally until you learn about populations around the world.

It's a curse sometimes because you want to discuss in civil manner with someone but they take things as an offence to their ethnicity

Well anthropology and genetics itself is a very controversial subject. A lot of it used to attempt to justify racism.

It's not always OWD. Sometimes implications that aren't true are made, and it takes away the seriousness of a subject, and it gets frustrating. There would be no such thing as OWD in the first place if racism never existed. White is nothing more than a phenotype. You either look white or you're not white looking. Genes don't matter when you shut off the forum. OWD people from experience (true OWD people) tend to be darker European posters who dont look typically European and have to prove how European they are. That is something that they shouldn't be blamed for. That is something that their society should be blamed for, for teaching their own people they they have to be pale skinned and light haired, etc to look educated, be attractive, be intelligent, taken seriously in life, etc.

Two reasons: 1) I figured I could barrage '5th cousins' with requests for money cuz 'we're family, bro.' That failed miserably. 2) I have a surprising interest in myself.
