The previous thread was deleted because of the Crash of July, so I decided to create a new one. The title of thread is self clear. Ask anything about or related to Portugal in this thread, me and any other Portuguese members will try to answer with the most possible accuracy.

This country would be similar to Galicia probably, our language would never separate from Galician and we would speak a "Castellenied" Galician, also the world wouldn't be the same or at least would take longer to change as it changed with us, we were the ones who started to Age of Exploration, others just imitated us.

What's one good place to have lunch and one non-touristy place to listen to live fado music in Lisbon?

There are a lot of "Casas de Fado" (Fado's Houses in English) around Lisbon, you can eat and at same time enjoy the enchants of Fado.![]()
Here is a link with some good fado houses. (Portuguese Language)

Two difficult questions, the first because it's subjective and the offer is huge. The second because i don't know about "casas de Fado", never been to one despite enjoying some of the music. I know they are restaurants with live music, but don't know which one is the best, cheaper or with the least tourists.
If you're visiting watch this when you have the time, maybe it will give you some ideas about restaurants:

Why do you think Brazil became one country, while all the Spanish colonies in the Americas are separate?

After the first French Napoleonic invasion to Portugal in 1807/1808 by the General Junot, the country as it was already a shadow of what it used to be was easily defeated by the French, so the royal family (Including the King John VI) exiled in Brazil during the French Occupation, during that time the Empire's capital moved from Lisbon to Rio de Janeiro which gave to Brazil a huge autonomy, the King children were raised in Brazil and one of them which was Pedro who felt that the Colony no longer had to be dependent of Portugal, after the Napoleonic occupation ended, the Royal Family returned to Portugal with the exception of Pedro who stayed in the Colony, Pedro rebeled against the father and he was ambitious of being the Emperor of a large country like Brazil, he saw also that most Colonials were already more Brazilian than Portuguese and proclaimed the Independence in 1822.
Also the Colonial System created a United Kingdom of Portugal and Brazil, instead of what the Spaniards did in Spanish America (diving their colonies between New Spain, New Granada, Peru, Rio de la Plata), there were capitanias (Provinces of the Colony) but there was only a ViceRoyalty unlike Spanish America.
