Nordic countries demand Mugabe's resignation
Published: 19 Dec 08 14:27 CET
Sweden has joined with the other Nordic countries in calling for Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe to step down, holding him responsible for the chaos in his country.
The foreign ministers of Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Norway made the call in a joint statement on Friday.
"The Nordic countries call for an end to the misrule of Robert Mugabe and of the disrespect for democratic principles and human rights - which are core issues underlying the Nordic engagement and support for the liberation struggles in southern Africa," the countries' foreign ministers said in a statement.
"The authorities in Zimbabwe alone bear the responsibility for the tragic situation the country is currently faced with," they said.
Mugabe has come under increasing pressure from world leaders to step down in recent weeks.
Zimbabwe, once a model economy in Africa, is struggling with inflation of around 231 million percent, desperate food shortages and chronic political instability.
A cholera epidemic has claimed more than 1,100 lives, aggravated by a strike by health workers who have been unable to get their wages from the banks because of a shortage of bank notes.
Mugabe, who has ruled the former British colony since independence in 1980, signed a power-sharing deal in September with his rival Morgan Tsvangirai that has yet to be implemented amid disagreements over who should control key ministries.
Tsvangirai pushed Mugabe into second place in the first round of a presidential election in March but withdrew from a run-off after scores of his supporters were killed.
"The Nordic countries have a long tradition of engagement with Zimbabwe and other countries in southern Africa (which) has historically been built on mutual trust, dialogue and the upholding of common values such as democratic principles and respect for human rights," the statement said.
The ministers said they were "appalled by the grave humanitarian situation in Zimbabwe" and the "violence and intimidation against the critics of the regime."
They called on the country's political parties to find an agreement that respected the will of the people of Zimbabwe.

Let nature takes its course. I surely don't care about 1200 people. It's wrong to use Western medicine made by healthy smart men to keep unfit morons alive.
Is Mugabe a threat to our security? No? Then shut the fuck up, please.![]()

Yep, from the bread basket of sub-Saharan Africa to its toilet bowl. And now the same thing is happening in the RSA. Hmmmm, I wonder if there's a pattern here ... ??Zimbabwe, once a model economy in Africa, is struggling with inflation of around 231 million percent, desperate food shortages and chronic political instability.

The irony in this is that the Nordic countries supported Robert Mugabe & his ZANU movement in the 70s when he was fighting to overthrow the evil Rhodesian government. The only people who fled Rhodesia were the Bantu terrorists.
It's also patronizing & kind of racist for the Nordic countries to interfere in the internal affairs of a Black country, telling their leader to resign as if these people can't take care of themselves.![]()

From the Wikipedia article:
Racism
A number of people have accused Mugabe of having a racist attitude towards white people. John Sentamu, a Uganda-born Archbishop of York in the United Kingdom, calls Mugabe "the worst kind of racist dictator," for having "targeted the whites for their apparent riches". Almost thirty years after ending white-minority rule in Zimbabwe, Mugabe accuses the United Kingdom of promoting white imperialism and regularly accuses opposition figures to his government of being allies of white imperialism.
When the United Kingdom once condemned Mugabe's authoritarian policies and alleged racist attitudes as being comparable to those of German Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler, Mugabe responded with an extremely controversial remark, mocking the UK's claims by saying about himself and his policies that "This Hitler had only one objective: justice for his people, sovereignty for his people, recognition of the independence of his people and their rights over their resources...If that is Hitler, then let me be a Hitler tenfold."
Views on homosexuality
Mugabe has waged a violent campaign against homosexuals, arguing that before colonisation Zimbabweans did not engage in homosexual acts. His first major public condemnation of homosexuality came in 1995 during the Zimbabwe International Book Fair in August 1995. He told the audience that homosexuality:
"...Degrades human dignity. It's unnatural and there is no question ever of allowing these people to behave worse than dogs and pigs. If dogs and pigs do not do it, why must human beings? We have our own culture, and we must re-dedicate ourselves to our traditional values that make us human beings... What we are being persuaded to accept is sub-animal behaviour and we will never allow it here. If you see people parading themselves as lesbians and gays, arrest them and hand them over to the police!"
In September 1995, Zimbabwe's parliament introduced legislation banning homosexual acts. In 1997, a court found Canaan Banana, Mugabe's predecessor and the first President of Zimbabwe, guilty of 11 counts of sodomy and indecent assault. Banana's trial proved embarrassing for Mugabe, when Banana's accusers alleged that Mugabe knew about Banana's conduct and had done nothing to stop it.

Well it is the fault of the UK. They turned what was prosperous Rhodesia over to Mugabe & his band of Afro-Marxists in 1980.
Colonialism was the best thing that ever happened to Africa & to the Negroes.
